Asymmetrical Beauty

“My work looks handmade, it’s how I want it to look. Nothing is perfectly symmetrical, but it’s all so beautiful.” – Lawrence Baca

Lawrence Baca is a multi-talented, award-winning jewelry designer, born and raised in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Baca’s work has a rugged splendor that conveys a pure joy, a joy that becomes tangible, wearable. Collectors worldwide seek out his new works and people who see it for the first time are mesmerized by the depths of his heartfelt style. The common theme in all his work is a combination of Spanish Colonial Ecclesiastical with roots in the earliest phase of Native American ‘Old Pawn.’ Baca’s use of materials ranges from sterling silver to 24 karat gold. He also uses a wide variety of gems and stones to create one-of-a-kind designs.

Baca finds inspiration in the elegance of irregular beauty; from a gnarled and weathered tree, an old twisted fence, or the sandstone and adobe buildings that seem to flow into each other. His pieces carry a harmonious spontaneity. “My work looks handmade, it’s how I want it to look. Nothing is perfectly symmetrical, but it’s all so beautiful.” As Baca creates a new piece, he stays open to how a design can take a new direction, completely different from the original concept. “I’ve learned not to be rigid. If something doesn’t come out exactly as I drew it, that’s okay.” This willingness to let a piece evolve and develop organically gives Baca’s work a palpable, touchable energy.

“I believe Lawrence allows the spirit of a design to set the tempo from start to finish. That asymmetrical, natural quality results in pieces that people connect with, time and time again.” – Shanan Campbell Wells
