Susan McCullough and David Knowlton to show at Sorrel Sky Gallery Santa Fe
SANTA FE, NM: November 3, 2016; Sorrel Sky Gallery announces the representation of two new artist: plein air and studio landscape painter Susan McCullough and rural structure and landscape painter David Knowlton. Although both artists are landscape painters, they each brings a singular perspective, technique and imagery to the gallery’s diverse collection of artists.
Susan McCullough, an oil painter, paints plein air landscapes as well as large studio paintings. Her plein air landscapes are representational, while her studio landscapes are more contemporary, reflecting a heightened sense of color and focus on design. A Colorado native, Susan has the passion and determination to paint outdoors in all seasons and conditions. Her deep awareness of the natural world, combined with a sensitive handling of paint, from delicately touched passages to bold strokes with thick paint, results in paintings of depth and inspiration.
David Knowlton, paints in his studio in Western Wisconsin where his imagery reflects his background. Born and raised in Wisconsin, he lived in Santa Fe for fifteen years, where he produced idealized highly detailed drawings and paintings of architecture, trains, bridges and machinery. Over the years he began to loosen his painting style, blending the real and the ideal in his depictions of iconic structures. Knowlton places emphasis on abstract elements; color relationships, the large shapes and patterns cast by shadows and the negative space and edges surrounding objects.
Gallery owner Shanan Campbell Wells is pleased to welcome these three artists to the gallery. “It is always exciting to welcome new artists to the gallery. A fresh dynamic emerges as their work is placed beside that of our current artists. It creates an energy that everyone can feel; the gallery team, visitors and collectors.”
Sorrel Sky Gallery’s fresh approach to Western art presents a select collection of contemporary and traditional fine art and jewelry for the discerning collector. Sorrel Sky Gallery was founded in Durango, CO in 2002 and opened its Santa Fe, NM location in 2014.
