Artists from both Durango, CO and Santa Fe, NM locations to participate in annual workshop series
DURANGO, CO and SANTA FE, NM: October 25, 2016; Sorrel Sky Gallery presents its 6th annual Workshop Series. From January through October 2017, Sorrel Sky Gallery will host 1, 2 and 3-day workshops at 828 Main Ave, Durango, Colorado, and at 125 W. Palace Ave, Santa Fe, New Mexico. Featuring painting, basketry and photography, each artist will share their knowledge, their skills and their inspiration. Horsehair Basket Weaving with Jane Chavez, January 14 – Santa Fe – This workshop will provide insight into the foundation of basket weaving, as well as its intricate and historic nature. This class is designed for beginners to intermediate.
Landscapes, Street Scenes and the Figure in the Landscape with Sharon Abshagen, March 17-19 – Durango – Weather permitting, the final day will be spent painting in plein air, incorporating newly-honed skills. This class is designed for beginners to intermediate.
Abstract Landscapes and Images from Thought with BJ Briner, March 24-26 – Santa Fe – The goal for this workshop is “to fill the ‘soul hole’ of each student.” This class is designed for beginners to intermediate.
Pine Needle Basket Weaving with Mimi Bonkowske, April 1&2 – Durango – This ancient art form uses the gifts that the earth provides to “make beautiful, wonderful and useful things.” This workshop includes supplies and an instruction book. This class is designed for beginners.
Landscapes and Portraits with Michael Lewis, April 1&2 – Santa Fe – This workshop will help students learn to be much looser with their brush strokes, where to place accents on a painting and how to simplify objects of interest. This class is designed for intermediate to advanced.
Building Confidence in Painting Landscapes with Stephen Day, April 7-9 – Durango – During this 3-day workshop students will paint at least 5 paintings, learning about color mixing, brushwork, drawing, edges and values. This class is designed for intermediate to advanced.
Still Life Painting with Martha Kellar, April 8&9 – Santa Fe – This workshop will focus on oils, as their forgiving nature is an ideal medium for practicing new concepts and techniques. This class is designed for beginner to intermediate.
Learning the Acrylic Layering Technique from a Master with Kevin Red Star, April 21-23 – Santa Fe – Kevin Red Star has an enormous amount of experience, skill and artistry to share. This 3-day workshop will focus on layer with acrylics using tipis as the inspirational subject matter.
Elements of Landscape Painting with Peggy Immel, April 28-30 – Durango – This 3-day workshop will use field studies, photographs and sketches to develop studio landscape paintings. This class is open to artists of all ability levels.
Landscape Photography with Robert Turner, September 29-October 1 – Durango – This 3-day workshop will offer guidance on being in the right place at the right time and the use of low light for rich color and contrast control. This class is designed for beginner to advanced.
